A GoPro can capture sweet action shots and some of your memorable moments. But some videos may be too long to watch that it may drag the overall viewing experience. Good thing this gadget has this feature called the time lapse shooting mode.
A Time Lapse Tool is what you need for creating compressed video footage of your outdoor adventures such as going on a hike, kayak trip, or just hopping in your car for a scenic drive.
And if you’re interested to know more about how to use this tool to your advantage, then we suggest you continue reading as we are going to share some tips on how to create spellbinding and breathtaking GoPro time lapse videos in today’s tech guide.
Here we go…
GoPro Time Lapse Photo Sequence
This is the most common method of creating a time lapse video. To make a photo sequence, all you need to do is to set the interval of the shutter timer with your subject and let your GoPro device do its thing.
Once done, collect the pictures you have taken and use the GoPro studio to do the photo sequencing magic for you.
The advantages of using time lapse photo sequence are as follows:
- Ideal for hours of days of recording as it will only consume low memory on the SD card storage.
- Low battery required compared to other time lapse methods.
- Retains a much higher quality of images.
Increasing The Speed Of The Standard Video Feature
You can also use your GoPro as is and record video at 1080p setting. Then, import your video into a post-production program so you can increase the speed until you achieve the desired effect.
The result is a seamless time lapse video, but the drawbacks of this method are that you’ll have to use a huge amount of memory (about 2 GB) if you record at 1080p with 25fps wide setting. And you’ll have to be ready as you are expected to spend hours of watching just to create a magnificent time lapse using this technique.
4K Video Time Lapse
And last but not least is a new way of creating captivating and high-quality GoPro time lapse sequences and that is through 4K. It is by far the highest resolution available in GoPro, actually twice as clear and detailed as HD (high-definition).
To do a 4K video time lapse, simply look for the 4K setting in your GoPro and select the interval by which the camera will gloriously capture everything in 4K. Once the filming is completed, the device will automatically save the video as a compressed MP4 file at 30fps.
The 4K feature is available on the GoPro Hero4 silver & black and most recent models.
And the benefits of using the 4K feature in your GoPro camera are as follows:
- Incredible high resolution time lapse videos.
- Ideal for adding zooming or panning effects with no loss of video detail.
- The time displayed reflects the actual time the video footage.
- MPEG file (compressed MP4 file) is automatically created after filming.
